La Cañada Flintridge Appoints Former Mayor Donald Voss; Hillard Avenue Workshop Set for October 29

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE, Los Angeles County — October 25, 2026. The City of La Cañada Flintridge reports that its City Council appointed former Mayor Donald R. Voss on October 20 to fill a vacant Council seat. According to the official October 21 announcement, he will serve the remainder of the term through March 2028. This is an appointment already announced as a completed Council action, unlike the upcoming municipal workshops discussed below.

When will the new council member be sworn in?

The city says the City Clerk will administer the official oath before November 4, with a ceremonial oath planned for the regular November 17 City Council meeting. The ceremony is expected to be part of the meeting in Council Chambers at One Civic Center Drive, beginning at 6 p.m.; the precise time of that agenda item may vary. The city identifies Voss as a former mayor and council member who previously served as city treasurer, with experience in finance and local civic organizations.

October 29: a chance to discuss Hillard Avenue

A separate, still-upcoming opportunity for public participation is a community meeting Thursday, October 29, from 6 to 7 p.m., on the Hillard Avenue Street Improvements Project. The official event listing places the discussion in Council Chambers at City Hall and says the proposed design concerns Hillard Avenue from Foothill Boulevard to Fairmont Avenue. City staff and a project consultant plan to discuss options intended to limit impacts on trees, planters, driveways and mailboxes. A preliminary design is not a final approved construction plan.

Other late-October dates

The municipal calendar lists a Public Safety Commission meeting October 26 at 6 p.m. and a Public Works and Traffic Commission meeting October 28 at 6 p.m.. Residents should consult individual notices and agendas rather than assume these bodies have already made any decision.
